Report

Social Security takes protecting your personal information seriously. We want to warn you about telephone scammers pretending to be government employees. Do not be fooled!

The caller says there is a problem with your Social Security number or account. Scammers may threaten you to provide personal information and may demand immediate payment to avoid arrest or other legal action. Never give out your personal information such as your bank account or send payment in any form, such as retail gift cards, cash, wire transfers, or pre-paid debit cards. Social Security employees will never threaten you for information or money, or demand an immediate payment.

If you receive a call like this, hang up! Report details of the call to our Office of the Inspector General at oig.ssa.gov. Share this information with your friends and family.

The US Social Security Administration has developed a video and informational flyers to help protect citizens against Social Security Fraud.
