In an effort to keep our City clean and comply with Federal and State regulations, the City of Lincoln voted to require trash pickup for residential customers and entered into an agreement with Area Disposal Inc for waste hauling. This agreement lowered monthly bills for paying customers and provided curb side pickup for recycling.
When does the agreement begin and end?
The franchise agreement is exclusive with Area Disposal. It will commence on March 1, 2018 and shall expire on February 28, 2021. The City shall have the right to extend the agreement for (2) additional (1) year periods by expressing interest in writing to Area Disposal at least 180 days prior to the expiration date of the then current term.

Collection Location and Day
Both waste and recyclables will be collected curbside unless collection in your area is done in alleys or other locations. For questions about your specific pickup location and day please call Area Disposal at 217-735-5881.
Totes Sizes and Additional Waste
Each single-family dwelling shall be provided a 35, 65, or 95 gallon tote cart for waste and an additional tote for recyclables, both FREE of charge, as selected by the resident. Additional totes can be rented for $2.50/month. If the amount of waste exceeds the capacity of the container, residents are allowed an additional 2 cubic yards of waste, at no cost, if stacked neatly alongside containers on regular collection days.

Snowbirds
Residents who move to warmer locations during the winter months can elect to suspend waste and recycling services for a minimum of 30 days and a maximum of 90 days upon 7 days notice to Area Disposal.
Can I Opt-Out?
All single-family dwellings are required to take waste services but may opt-out of taking recycling services.
Exceptions for Waste Disposal
- Commercial Business Owners
Commercial business owners who currently subscribe to waste services with Area Disposal at the business location are not required to also have waste pick up at their residence. They may choose to dispose of their personal waste in their commercial waste container. This only applies to the business owner and NO OTHER EMPLOYEES. At such time that the commercial business no longer requires or receives waste disposal services the owner will be required to obtain residential waste disposal services. - Vacant Properties
Property owners are not required to subscribe to waste and/or recycling services if the property is vacant. Effective July 1, 2021, once the property is occupied, the property owner will be required to obtain residential waste disposal services.
