The City of Lincoln, State of Illinois, and County of Logan have partnered to redevelop Fifth Street Road west of Lincoln Parkway (Old Route 66) to the Interstate overpass. Not only will this improve the roadway itself, but was to correct water drainage along the roadway itself from neighboring developments.
Third Fridays Downtown is a free, family-friendly, Summer event series that offers fun, entertainment, and affordable food options for the entire community. Lincoln approaches health from a broad perspective with an understanding that the health of the community is driven by countless stakeholders. Here we have highlighted some of the organizations in our community that work to tackle issues ranging from childhood nutrition and wellness to obesity and addiction.
Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital Community Health Collaborative – Established in 1996, the Community Health Collaborative connects healthcare providers, organizations, businesses, private individuals, and churches to improve the health of the people and communities it serves.
Logan County Parks and Trails Foundation – The purpose of the foundation is to receive and administer funds for the acquisition, development, beautification, preservation and operation of sites in Logan County, Illinois. These sites are suitable for parks, recreation, nature preservation, and as botanical, zoological, horticultural, and conservation areas for the benefit of the general public and the citizens of Logan County.
Lincoln Park District – The park district owns and maintains 95 acres of parks and open space, encompassing seven park sites, baseball fields, softball fields, playgrounds, driving range and a swimming pool. The park district is also proud to provide the community with the SportsCenter fitness facility.
City of Lincoln Fitness Court – The city is a proud partner of the National Fitness Campaign. As part of this campaign the city has opened a fitness court which provides a free state of the art outdoor opportunity for community members to get outdoors and be active. The fitness court, located at 235 Eighth Street in Lincoln, is in a central location providing access to the whole community and features 7 movements – Core, Squat, Push, Lunge, Pull, Agility, and Bend – appropriate for all fitness levels. The Fitness Court is for participants 14 years old and up. A free app is available to access free fitness classes and participate in national challenges. Additionally, a variety of free LIVE classes take place at the Court. Dates and times can be found on the ALMH Community Health Collaborative and City of Lincoln, Illinois Facebook pages.
